Interested in Kingston History?

The Senate House has a position opening up this summer, which would be perfect for a college student. Check out Pam Malcolm’s note here for more information:

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It looks like we may have a temporary, part-time summer job available at Senate House State Historic Site, in Kingston NY, this summer, and I am seeking candidates who might be interested. The position would be available for 9 or 10 weeks this summer. It is a Park and Recreation Aide position, working as a member of the site’s interpretive staff. The person filling this position is replacing another employee on leave for the summer, so I doubt that the position could extend beyond early August; but it could be a very nice entry-level position for a college or graduate student planning a career in historic site or museum work.

The day to day responsibilities would include leading tours of the Senate House for visitors and possibly school/camp groups, demonstrating 18th-century crafts and skills (such as hearth cooking and wool spinning) while wearing period clothing, staffing the site museum’s reception desk, performing basic security-related and maintenance work around the site, and possibly some transcription of documents in the site’s archival collections.

The position involves at least one weekend day, and probably two week-days. The candidate chosen will demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to teach and work with diverse audiences, dependability, punctuality and a positive, resourceful attitude. Experience, training or demonstrated strong interest in the historic site and museum field a definite plus.

If you know someone who might be interested, please encourage them to send in a resume and letter of interest asap.

Thanks!
Pam
