An Opportunity For Citizens to Support A Comprehensive Plan in the City of Kingston

By Rebecca Martin

An important opportunity has come to light.

On Tuesday, August 3rd at 7:30pm the common council will vote to support (or not)  a grant proposal pitched by city planning coordinator Suzanne Cahill through the Financial and Economic Development Committee. The meeting will take place at Kingston’s City Hall at 420 Broadway.

Under the HUD Community Planning Program, the Committee agreed unanimously to support a bond request for $240,000. The grant would be $200,000 with the $40,000 being the local share.  Being that the city of Kingston has not created a citywide comprehensive plan in almost 50 years, it is important for citizens to show their support.  There is always time at the front of every common council session for public comment.  A few words of three minutes or less is all it will take to help make a positive impact on Kingston’s future development.

If you wish to learn more about this, please contact Suzanne Cahill at:  planning@kingston-ny.gov

  1. Good, everyone. Rally the troops and lets secure this opportunity for our Citys future.

I am out of town – so will unfortunately not be there. I would like to do a follow-up piece on KC.org to share citizens take on the evening for those who can not be present.

There is interest in developing a comprehensive plan for Kingston, so I thought this public UC Transportation Council meeting might be of interest. Additionally, there has been interest in developing a bike-friendly community, and this meeting might be the venue to raise this topic.
